What happens on a machine panic?

I had a couple PANICs recently due to some bad memory chips and I've noticed that there are random pieces of data disappearing from my Online 5.03 system. Which means: 1: I have stupid users who are randomly deleting data (which IS a possibility) 2: Something got trashed during the panic that was not saved/restored. 3: Little elves are skating on the hard drives and the blades are erasing the data. Anyone have any idea what happens to the raw Informix dataspace when everything just STOPS, without a chance for rollback etc..?
