Unable to read temporary file (-230)

One of our sites is receiving an "Could not read a temporary file... Error -230." The site is running Informix-SQL 2.01 under SCO Xenix 2.3.4. The various file parameters (NFILES, NINODES, and NLOCKS) have been increased to above normal levels (600,600,300 respectively). File space is fine. The /tmp/so*.dat and .idx files exist briefly, then disappear. The ACE report prints a couple of records, but nothing more. Anyone else run across this error? If so, anyone find a solution?
