In particular, Informix SE 7.2x has been ported to Linux,
and the relevant documents are located at:
http://www.informix.com/answers/oldsite/answers/english/se72xux.htm
including the Unix Installation guide (found near the bottom).
But there's lots of good reading everywhere on that page.
Probably you want to do the following while logged in as root:
#create the informix user and make a directory to hold the server
adduser informix
mkdir /usr/local/informix
cd /usr/local/informix
unzip /your-path-to-zip-file/informix_se___esql_c_bundle_for_linux.zip
#go to the newly created directory, remember to export the INFORMIXDIR
#environment variable or 'installse' complains, and run the install program
cd /usr/local/informix/LINUX_se_bundle724UC5/SE
export INFORMIXDIR=/usr/local/informix/LINUX_se_bundle724UC5/SE ./installse
This is as far as I've gotten. There's still quite a bit of documentation to
read.
Hope that's helpful.
