Sounds like a problem i had, when i changed from V5.0 to V7.22.
Try setting DBMONEY:
csh
setenv DBMONEY .
sh / ksh
DBMONEY=.
export DBMONEY
OR setting
LC_NUMERIC
setenv LC_NUMERIC "C"
