We ran into similar problems on the HP platform with INFORMIX
OnLine 4.10.UE4 with ISQL 4.10.UD2 and ESQL/C 4.10.UE1. In our
case, it was just the opposite. Only the isql program gave us
the above error, but the ESQL/C programs worked fine.
We had recently updated to 4.10.UG2, and the prolbem is gone.
If you do not want to upgrade your INFORMIX, you might want
to try the following workaround that had worked for us:
% ypcat passwd | grep "^user1:"
user1:F89fdskREU:190:300:Test user:/home/user1:/bin/csh
Use your favorite editor to add the above entry in the
/etc/passwd file on the machine where INFORMIX OnLine is
running on.
Hope this helps!
