I think you should check the block factors both in the OnLine
configuration and in your AIX configuration.
Informix OnlIne:
if the TAPEBLK configuration parameter in the $ONCONFIG file is the
standard 16 kb you can gain much more speed by setting this parameter to
a higher value - try 64 or 128 kb.
(If (when) you change this parameter, be sure to make a new level 0
archive!).
AIX:
Check the block size with the tctl command (assuming the tape drive is
rmt1):
# tctl -f /dev/rmt1 status
If the block_size is 0, then you can read all tapes regardless of the
block size the tape was written with, but with a very slow speed. You
should change the block size with the following command:
# chdev -l rmt1 -a block_size=1024
Note that when you set block_size different from 0, the block_size must
be set to the same value when writing and reading the tape.
