IDS AIX to RHEL/Intel

A client is considering moving IDS from AIX to RHEL/Intel (which is exciting to say the least). To post a very general question ... any stories from the road going from AIX to Linux, or Linux in general? I recall Sandor showing great I/O numbers with direct I/O during the IDS 10 tour in Germany, but that was long ago and haven't kept up much on Linux ports. Thanks in advance - Mark Scranton The Mark Scranton Group mark@markscranton.com

Virtualising would be a different matter and I would strongly advise against. Linux runs Informix well. Just note the following caviats: - You need to test DIRECT_IO versus RAW as the specific configuration can affect IO performance on Linux. - Same with configuring Kernel Asynchronous IO at the OS level. Without tuning it may not perform well and DIRECT_IO needs KAIO - Best to run on bare iron rather than on a VM, though the VMs are getting closer to bare iron all the time. Art Art S.
