I think it's ANSI standard (at least Informix always claims to be, but
then again, so did Sybase and at least 10.x of Sybase was very
different.)For Informix, simply put "OUTER" in front of the table to be
outer-joined to, as in
SELECT a,b,c
FROM some_table, OUTER another_table...
This makes a lot more sense than the *= and =* used by Sybase and
Microsoft's SQLServer. (at least to me anyway).
(I have heard that Sybase 10.x was not fully ANSI-compliant, though not
from anyone at Sybase).

Triggers have not always been supported. Someone else will probably
give you the exact version, but I believe they have been supported since
"ante-diluvian" times (since at least 5.x).
