Variable Types in Stored Procedures

I am getting into stored procedures for the first time. My first shock is that the compiler does not like array or record variables. Since I have more than 500 lines of code in one procedure, I hope there is something wrong with my compiler. I am using dbaccess. Any help would be appreciated.
