Informix7.1 OnLine on Linux

--------------------------------
I have been trying to run Informix 7.1 OnLine (SCO binary) on Linux 1.2.13
(ELF). Briefly, to make it work I had to:
1) add "localization" files (a thing that appeared in SCO 5), i.e.
/etc/default/lang and a bunch of files that go into
/usr/lib/lang/C/C/C/....)
2) Manualy create the sysmaster database in root dbspace -
"oninit -i", after correctly initializing shared memory and disc space,
fails with sth like "cannot build/check sysmaster database". From my
other experiments (I transferred a correctly initialized root dbspace
from an SCO machine, and the dadabase on Linux began to work), I
concluded that the failure may be teh result of some secondary checks
made by the script. So I re-created the sysmaster:
a) created a new dbspace;
b) run "oninit -i" - everything initialized, sysmaster creation fails;
c) run portions of /etc/buildsmi (if I remember correctly) from
command line "dbaccess -e - Name.Of.File >ERROR.LOG 2>&1"
d) manually checked the log for errors - there were none.
My QUESTION is: Does full initialization/creation of a new Informix
installation end with this, or are there any more steps I may be missing?
I am new to Informix and would like just to make sure. I checked only the
most basic functionality, i.e. creation of another dbspace, then a
database in it, and a couple of tables - looked allright.
Any tips/info would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who needs more details
about the above please write to me.
P.S. The only way Linux 1.2.13 + latest iBCS work with Informix 7.1 is
via shared memory. There were some indications that TCP/IP sockets and
TLI emulation may become functional with later kernels - I am going to
upgrade and find out.
