Hi, IDS 11.50.FC4 on Solaris 10 I was trying to generate a customized config file using the genoncfg utility $:/export/home/vikas>cat con cpus 8 memory 16384 m connection name test onsoctcp 9088 servernum 3 oltp_connections 1000 dss_connections 10 disk /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs 0 k 1000 m $:/export/home/vikas> genoncfg con Opening /opt/informix/ids-11.50.FC4/etc/IIF-cr... Configuring a 64-bit server. Measuring read speed /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs... Measuring write speed /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs... Physical Log size 900Mb is too small $:/export/home/vikas> I dont know if the genoncfg utility has runned sucessfully as there is not "onconfig" file generated in the working directoy. Did i miss anything? Regards, Vikas
Hi, >I dont know if the genoncfg utility has runned sucessfully as There are distinct return codes based on tests performed using the values you provide in the configuration file. What is the return code after the utility run is complete? NOTE: As the tests check your hardware, ensure the values you provided will be supported. If not, try reducing them. Refer to "Instance Configuration Wizard" section in Windows install guide. >there is not "onconfig" file generated in the working directoy. Its created in the current directory. In your case, if you don't see one, it indicates that generation could not be completed based on supplied configuration information. Sundar. When configuring the system with a high number of users and CPUs, 1 GB on a single partition might not be sufficient for dbspaces, logs, and data. If the utility wants to allocate 900 MB for physical logs, there will only be 100 MB left over for logical logs and data. There are two solutions to this: 1) If your system has more than one physical disk, add more disks to the parameter file. For example, if /db3 were a mount point for an additional disk or partition, and you want to allocate 4 GB to this instance, you could have two disk lines in the parameter file, and genoncfg would decide where the physical, logical logs would reside. disk /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs 0 k 1000 m disk /db3/informix/dbs/dbsp001 0 k 4000 m 2) Add the one_crit directive to the parameter file, as follows: directive one_crit This forces your physical logs, logical logs, and data to all reside in the root dbspace. If you get an error saying that more space is needed, you'll also want to increase the disk space allocation in the parameter file. Hope this helps. Best of luck! PJ To
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply, Along side deling with the IDS 11.50 FC4 crash issue i
restore the instance and started working with the genoncfg utility with the
following parameters just to start and get onconfig file in my local directory
cpus 8
memory 16384 m
connection name lt3 onsoctcp 1772
servernum 3
oltp_connections 100
dss_connections 10
disk /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs 0 k 10000 m
directive one_crit
And nice to see a onconfig file was generated in my local directory.
I was going through the parameters configured by genoncfg utility for me
untill i saw the NETTYPE parameter generated by genoncfg utility in the
onconfig file.
> cat onconfig |grep ^NETTYPE
NETTYPE onsoctcp,1,150,CPU
CPU with onsoctcp ???
I checked for the onconfig.std file and my onconfig.lt3 file as well
> cat onconfig.std |grep ^NETTYPE
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,50,CPU
> cat onconfig.lt3 |grep ^NETTYPE
NETTYPE soctcp,4,250,NET
but could not see any combination of tcp and CPU which the genoncfg has
generated in onconfig file.
Have you seen any thing alike?
Thanks again for your reply,
Vikas

Hi,
IDS 11.50.FC4 on Solaris 10
I was trying to generate a customized config file using the genoncfg utility
$:/export/home/vikas>cat con
cpus 8
memory 16384 m
connection name test onsoctcp 9088
servernum 3
oltp_connections 1000
dss_connections 10
disk /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs 0 k 1000 m
$:/export/home/vikas> genoncfg con
Opening /opt/informix/ids-11.50.FC4/etc/IIF-cr...
Configuring a 64-bit server.
Measuring read speed /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs...
Measuring write speed /db2/informix/dbs/rootdbs...
Physical Log size 900Mb is too small
$:/export/home/vikas>
I dont know if the genoncfg utility has runned sucessfully as there is not
"onconfig" file generated in the working directoy.
Did i miss anything?

Vikas
