Your reply to a news question ->indicates that you have both Informix and Oracle operating on a Sun system. -> ->- Steve Hathaway <steve@oem.or.gov> // Oregon Emergency Management Hello, Steve, The simple answer to your question is "No". We have an Informix application running networked using I-Net. That app is being phased out in favor of an Oracle app which is linked via home-grown inter-computer communication methods. Many of the computers in our net have instances of both apps in place. Therefore, I was able to say that the two systems can co-exist peacefully. However, we are not using SQL*Net, so I cannot comment on how the two "network SQLs" work together. I would think it is not difficult, providing you use different sockets for your comm links; but I cannot say from experience that this is so. Furthermore, neither of our applications uses a distributed database. The Informix app uses a centralized database with distributed (coast to coast) access. The Oracle app uses multiple, basically unsynchronized, databases with primarily local access. The lack of synchronization or any other coordination (a design flaw in my opinion) is causing us great difficulties, but my objections during the design phase were overruled.
