where, on what machines? the nis files should be identical
on all machines, so none of that should be an issue, that is why i
said that it might not have been installed and/or files propagated
correctly. i have a setup with all of my software on the server, and
every client remote mounts the directory with the executables, and
that is how they get isql and such. with nis, all the password files
are current and in place, so each client access the server with nothing
done specifically on the client short of remote mounting the informix
directory.

yes, but where does that information come from? with the library
calls that access user and password info, that simply comes from the
password and shadow files.
again, i would say, off the top of my head, that the nis files
are propagated correctly, but then i assume you would be seeing other
problems.

how does this work? the mailto: throws them off as it doesn't
fit the criteria for a standard e-mail address?
