U = Unix T = NT F - never heard of an F The subsequent letter and number is a release and patch level, hence: UC1 = Unix, first release, first patch level. UC2 = Unix, first release, second patch level. UD3 = Unix, second release, third patch level TE1 = NT, third release, first patch level. Etc.
