Device files did not show up?

Hello Everyone, We installed new DLT drives , but they are not operational yet. Does any = one know how to make them active. The device files did not show up, so = there is no way to access to them. HP70, 5.X informix. Also is there a Script that can be used to make the informix backups automated? Right now I am starting them manually in the tbmonitor, archive, create etc. Thanks, Eve
