Thanks a lot for your answers Once again I am working torwards qualifying to be a newbie in Informix If it helps any I have worked with Oracle up to 9i. But work on a day to day basis with Oracle 8i. I have support for an informix database but feel uncomfortable calling support to have something as basic as adding a datafile or even checking "alert "logs application logs (assuming I know where they are located) This begs the question,why not let support do it.The response is I will like to be weaned someday from support So information like 1) where to check the log file in informix 2)how to change the sizes of a physical/logical log, dbspace,dbslice and shared memory will be more than appreciated Documentation will have its place Again thank you for your expert time Vince
