Obstacle is killing itself technically.... in V10 they took away oracle enterpice manager console which may not be the tool anyone liked... it did work for me and it had nice features like grabbing top sql out of a running system (when it was not too busy....)-->> INFORMIX FEA put this in isa.!!!! They replaced it with a shitty web interface which needs an agent (java ) running which eats 500MB of memory.... INFORMIX ISA is way better. to install 10 it says in the release notes one needs 1GB of memory. yuk.... but that's good news for informix; Superboer. fingers crossed that obstacle continue this route. Also they are a bit lazy in fixing things.... security comes to mind... eweek is full of those storys... also good!!! ignore your customers; you are the biggest you can afford it.... Superboer wrote: > Obstacle is killing itself technically.... in V10 they took away > oracle enterpice manager console which may not be the tool anyone > liked... Actually they renamed it to DBConsole because they created similar tools to perform similar functions for the App Server and other products. > They replaced it with a shitty web interface which needs an agent > (java ) running > which eats 500MB of memory.... INFORMIX ISA is way better. With a nearly identical interface to the Grid Control and it no longer requires running a web server. That is a huge plus. > to install 10 it says in the release notes one needs 1GB of memory. > yuk.... > > but that's good news for informix; Nothing is good news for Informix. Hello Daniel, i suspected you would bite.... grin.... am no export and you seems to be one: > Actually they renamed it to DBConsole because they created similar > tools to perform similar functions for the App Server and other > products. can not find it and attempting to access V10 from another machine using the old oracle enterpice manager console does not work. So i have to use the web interface. > Nothing is good news for Informix. Oracle could fall off a cliff and IBM > would still promote DB2: only with more vigor. True however there are a lot of situations where DB2(cv) can not hack it eq deliver the performance required so they have to deliver Informix. (or miss the features required....) so in that sense it is still good news for informix.... Talking about performance: Some time ago (+/- 5 years) in a real comparison between oracle and informix using real life data/applications, informix was faster on 12 cpus then obstacle on 64 cpus. So you need at least a 5 times bigger machine for obstacle to get the same performance as informix..... No wonder Hardware manufacturers love obstacle and IBM is a Hardware manufacturer. This comparison should have been exploited to the fullest; unfortunatly it did not. i can not give you the details; may be the guys involved back then can.. Superboer. btw i still want to remain icognito so if someone recognize me then please do not give away who i am. Hello Obnoxio, --Phil White? :o) WOEHA i also expected a comment like this!!! grin... nope if i was then i would not be on the news group....since a lot of people see him as the man who actually killed informix or actually made a good start in doing so.. and i can imagine that a lot of people dislike him for that. See you Superboer.
