IMHO 4J's, Querix (and Aubit 4GL) have two problems: * They are not moving fast enough * They do not have the brand IBM has 2 old products that would breathe new life into 4GL with little work: New Era and 4GL for Windows. New Era was an exelent object oriented language, but by dopping part of 4GL compatibility, it had to compete directly with VB, and lost. 4GL for Windows was a lousy attempt to build a GUI interface for 4GL. It was ugly, expensive, but the need it addressed is still around. So, I think IBM, with little trouble, should start on extending the 4GL syntax, maintaining full 4GL compatibility and allowing Windows GUI.
