Well, Informix was the first commercial database vendor to port to Linux at all, eons before Oracle, Sybase, DB2 and the rest, and this after a year long valiant effort of two handful of visionaries who would call themselves the IIUG Informix on Linux committee: Art, Billy, Nils, David, among others, under the (not so) expert leadership of Tim first and yours truly later, and the auspices of a few other Informix employees who mostly acted behind the scenes (you know who you are). I remember Oracle frantically announcing that they would port to Linux the day before the opening day of the Informix User Conference in 98 - the next day a thousand CDs with SE 7.24 for Caldera and Suse were being freely distributed Ah! Technically speaking... ;-) It was actually Interbase who ported ahead of Informix. The marketing manager was looking for a hook, and ported it way way way ahead of Informix. It was decided upon with 1 email of chat about "if it's a good idea or not?". Unfortunately it really didn't matter, either for Informix or Interbase. Sybase actually took the ball early on after Informix, with their 11.9x release on Linux with even a free-for-production-use license. I think Caldera had their hand in the Sybase deal... As you say... those where the days... Now MySQL owns Informix's ISAM space on Linux... c'est la vie...
