Your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts must look like:
server_se seipcpip host1 sqlexec
server_se sesoctcp host2 1536
You can use whatever string you like for the server name (server_se).
The host1 in the first line must match *exactly* the output
of "uname -n". You may not use just the hostname if "uname -m"
gives you the fully qualified name - i.e. with a domain (it's
got dots in it). You may not use "localhost" - unless "uname -m"
tells you your hostname is localhost (which is wrong anyway...).
The host2 in the second line may match host1 or may not. It must,
however, be something that can be looked up via /etc/hosts, NIS
or DNS and turned into an IP address for the machine providing
the service.
The 1536 is the port number or name the server process is listening
on.
Informix scans the sqlhosts file and uses the first matching line
it finds. So if your uname matches the host name in an seipcpip
line first you get pipes, otherwise you drop through and use the
sesoctcp line. This allows the same sqlhosts file to be used company
wide rather than being machine specific.
