Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Will Landstrom asked how to set up NetBackup with ontape. Fernando Nunes and Richard Snoke explained ontape cannot talk to a storage manager directly like onbar. Instead, point TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV at directories, so ontape writes backup files that NetBackup backs up as ordinary files. Will said this was what he needed.

Hi everyone. Would anyone have any documentation on what the informix dba
needs to do in order to setup netbackup (nbu) with ontape. I have done this
with onbar but never ontape and can't find any documentation on this. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks, Will
I may be missing something, but ontape doesn't connect to any storage
manager.
You can do ontape backups to disk (file or directory) or to STDIO (maybe a
PIPE to compress) and then pick up the resulting file with the storage
manager agent for file system backups.
Regards.

Hi,
ontape does not work with netbackup (or any equivalent product) directly
as onbar does. There is not way to directly pump the output of ontape to
a program like netbackup. What's relatively easy to do is to use a
directory for TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV (these may be separate directories).
ontape then creates a separate file there for each backup. Then you can
configure netbackup to capture the files in whatever scheme you want. The
backups are just filesystem files to netbackup.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers,
