Run oncheck -pe to see what is in the chunk. There may be part of =
sysmaster or sysutils grown into that chunk. :-(
If you only have 2 chunks in the instance, no databases and want to get =
rid of 1 chunk ... Why not just initialise the instance again? :-)

Subject: Deleting a chunk in rootdbs
Hi all,
I'm working as a consultant in some "strange" system.
The rootdbspace has 3 chunks and the On-Line system, more than 20
databases. I've dropped all the databases except sysmaster and sysutils =
and
deleted the other dbspaces with no problem. The 3rd chunk of the rootdbs =
is
deleted too, but the second no. Informix says that it isn't empty.
I've moved the physical logs to other dbspace, dropped all logical =
logs
until reach the limit of 3. My system has 2 databases, a dbspace with
physical log and temporary area and a 2-chunk in rootdbs. How can I =
delete
the 'rest' of the data in the second chunk of the dbspace? About 500 =
pages
are in use in it...
Thanks and forgive English errors please... I'm from Brazil!

Hi... Thanks for the first tip! Chunk 2 have only "informix".TBLSpaces... and all are FREE! >If you only have 2 chunks in the instance, no databases and want to get = >rid of 1 chunk ... Why not just initialise the instance again? :-) How can I do it in Unix? []ao LEO Cardoso ---
You should verify carefully the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG file,
specially the Root Dbspace, Physical Log and Logical Log configuration
parameters, before initializing the instance from scratch.
Please make your calculations for size and location of your several
dbspaces/chunks, location of logs, assignation of dbspaces to Temporary
table/file management, and so on...
After doing a carefull check on the file to see if everything is as it
should be for your configuration, then ... and ONLY THEN ...
do an 'oninit -i'
Please note that when you execute this command, the configuration
'created' is the one specified in the mentioned file. Don't forget to
check wether you DO have the ONCONFIG environment variable set. If not,
the file used will be $INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig.
Hope this helps.

login as informix:
oninit -iinitializes the Informixdatabase completetly.
Be Careful.
