Upgrading Online from 6.00 to 7.12

Has anyone else experienced noticeable performance deterioration after upgrading from 6.00 to 7.12? I have talked to Informix and get the impression that, though Version 7 is geared to performance IMPROVEMENT, this may only be apparent if the hardware configuration includes multiple processors / disks. In our case, we (currently) have one processor and (you've guessed) one disk. Any suggestions as to what is easily tweakable to revert to our previous performance levels would be appreciated. (We are not upgrading in an attempt to improve performance, but rather to avoid problems in Version 6 relating to use of temporary tables). Tip for anyone migrating to Version 7.12 and using stored procedures: if you have any variables define "LIKE table.col" where "table.col" is datatype SERIAL, you will get SQL -670 errors (it's been tightened up!).
