Re: alarmprogram

I've used the alarm program extensively, and I've found it invaluable. At first, it's a bit trial-and-error, but once you get a polished program it can be a life saver. The keys are to know which messages to ignore, and to know how to distinguish what messages you need to know about right away. My alarm program would ignore messages with severity 1, and would ignore certain other specific messages (identified by class id). All other messages were sent to a list of e-mail addresses for informational purposes. Messages with a severity of 4 or higher were sent directly to a series of alphanumeric pagers (including mine), so we would know the moment something went wrong. Basically, the easy way to see what you'll get is to look at your online.log. Any message that goes to that file will first be processed by your alarm program. I definitely recommend working with this. HTH, - Thomas J. Girsch Database Systems Manager Arch Communications Group, Inc.
