Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

We have Online 5.01 AND Online 7.1x running both on one Solaris 2.4. I
prefer 7.1x because I can look at actual SQL running to see if anyone is
doing anything "funny" (onstat -g sql), I have more flexibility in tuning
parameters and connectivity (don't have to worry about starting that silly
sqlexecd). AND (believe it or not) I actually like the "concept" of
onarchive although there are alot of improvements needed. I have had to
write scripts and I confiscated a special su "C" program to allow the
operators to circumvent that dreaded "you can only be root or informix"
message for backups or bringing down/up the database. Online 7.1x does
have some versions with more bugs than other 7.1x versions; and, you may
find some programs a little slower (especially if they don't stick to ansi
sql -- but, none of my databases are ansi defined.
I am still waiting for point in time recovery where I can recover up
to the "last sql" that caused a problem. I don't like having only "root"
install or upgrade Informix; it should allow "informix" to upgrade or
install.
Anyway, that's my 2 dollars worth (inflation you know). Feel free to
send the money asap... I'm not independently wealthy, yet.
