Keeping Track of Windows

I've only been using Informix for about 1 month so bear with me if the answer to this question is trivial. I'm using Informix 4.1 RDS on SCO Unix 3.2.4, my problem is I call a function to display information in a status window which is open all the time. The problem is I call this from many different windows and I need to know from which window or function the call was made so I can return to the correct window. Four or five windows are open on the screen at once and I need a method of deciding which window to make current after displaying the status message.
