Question on IWA Requirement
Posted in 2013
Question: can Informix Warehouse Accelerator (IWA) be installed on Solaris 10 32-bit? Answer: no. IWA itself runs only on 64-bit Linux on x86-64 (any AMD/Intel CPU with SSE3; IBM-supported distros cited as RHEL 5/6 and SLES 11, VMware allowed). An initial claim that it needed Itanium/Xeon i7 was corrected. The Informix engine feeding IWA must also be 64-bit (Solaris x64 or SPARC, or Linux x86-64) — a 32-bit Solaris server cannot use query acceleration. Clearly resolved.

Can Informix Warehouse Accelerator be installed on Solaris 10 32-bit? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Let's go Green This email contains 100% recycled electrons.
No, IWA ONLY runs on the latest Intel processor chips under Linux, HOWEVER, the underlying Informix engine that it is communicating with can be running on any platform. Art Art S. Thanks Art, so the answer is yes, IWA runs on 32bits Solaris 10? NO. The answer is NO. You can run Informix on Solaris 32bit, but the IWA executables themselves have to be running on Intel Itanium I7 processors (it takes advantage of new instructions no available on any other processor) running Linux ONLY! You can issue your SQL and even run the iwa management utility from Sol Art Art S. Hi, an Informix server, that should connect to IWA for query acceleration, cannot run on Solaris 32 bit, neither on Intel nor Sparc architecture. However, an Informix server running on 64-bit Solaris can connect to IWA, for both architectures, Intel as well as Sparc. IWA itself always has to run on Linux 64-bit on Intel. IWA runs on any x86-64 + SSE3 instruction set compatible 64bit AMD or Intel processor. This means its supported by Intel Atom upwards. You can run and test it on your Notebook with a 64bit Linux, e.g. Ubuntu 12.10 x86_64 . Hi Kern, IWA cannot run on Solaris. IWA can only run on a Linux x86 - 64 bits architecture. For the linux release, the choice is free (Debian, CentOS, Redhat ...), but if you want to be supported by IBM, you have only the following choices : a) RHEL 5 b) RHEL 6 c) SUSE SLES 11 For your information, IWA can work with VMWARE. If you cannot install IWA on a real Linux server, you can install it on a VMWARE Linux server on your machine. Moreover, you cannot accelerate your query if IDS is installed on Solaris 32 bits. Infomix IDS must to be installed on a Solaris x64 - 64 bits or a Solaris SPARC 64 bits or Linux x86 - 64 bits.
