Acceso desde Informix a Oracle
Posted in 2009
A user (posting in Spanish) with IDS 10.0 on Tru64/Alpha wanted inserts, updates and deletes on an Informix table to be propagated to an Oracle 9 database on AIX, or at least some way to see the Informix data from Oracle. No single accepted answer, but several options were suggested: buy IBM's Informix Enterprise Gateway so Oracle tables look native to IDS and then drive them with triggers; write a C program linked against both Informix and Oracle libraries; use a UDR calling Oracle's JDBC driver; or use IBM's Change Data Capture / DataMirror (or IDS's change-capture API) to feed changes to Oracle. The poster never reported which route he took.

Translated (via babelfish): I want to you to comment a problem to see if you can help me. I have a IDS version 10.0 that we have in a Alpha with UNDER Tru64 and I want, either from a program 4GL or from some tool , to accede to Oracle. I explain myself better, I want that if I do insert, update, delete in a table of Informix that same one becomes in a basic table of Data Oracle 9 that is in a AIX servant. If that is not possible, some tool that can visualize in Oracle the Informix table or have a view of her Greetings and to see if somebody can some solution to me because I do not know by where throwing. Answer: You need to purchase the Informix Enterprise Gateway product from IBM. That will make the Oracle database visible to the Informix server as if it is a native database. Then you can attach a set of triggers to the Informix table that will maintain the Oracle table for you. Another possibility - if you are brave - is to write a C program with both Informix and Oracle SQL in it, and compile and link to both Informix and Oracle libraries. I saw a vendor application (for law firms) that did that a number of years ago. Another flavor that I have used is to put it in a UDR and use the oracle JDBC drivers in it to go across. Or you could go with some of the newer technologies from IBM like the IBM transformation server also known as Data Mirror. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/infosphere/change-data-capture/ http://www.demos.ibm.com/on_demand/Demo/IBM_Demo_IBM_InfoSphere_Change_Data_Capt ure-May08.html?S_CMP=rnav Thanks -Manoj "rroussey@comcast.net" <rroussey@comcast.net> Sent by: ids-bounces@iiug.org 02/03/2009 09:10 AM Please respond to ids@iiug.org To ids@iiug.org cc Subject Re: Acceso desde Informix a Oracle [14704] Another possibility - if you are brave - is to write a C program with both Informix and Oracle SQL in it, and compile and link to both Informix and Oracle libraries. OO! That's right, I always forget about the new Change-Capture feature. This is an API that you can use from C or Javal UDRs to hook into a table's changes. In those routines you could either link in Oracle APIs to update the Oracle database tables or just pass the data to an external process that will take care of that.
