Re: Chaning DBSERVERNAME on the fly

(problem with upper case letters in DBSERVERNAME - wanted to change DBSERVER name) The Jonathan spake: > > You would probably be able to edit $ONCONFIG, take OnLine off-line, > and then bring it back up again. Add the old name as a DBSERVERALIAS, > perhaps in all lower case. > (As so often, in writing this the solution became obvious so this is not a question, but a 'reprise' (I like that term).) Situation: Had an engine called c1faP aliased to c1faPtcp. c1faP = shmem, c1faPtcp = tcp I changed the name to c1fap, added an alias to c1faptcp and c1faP in onconfig. changed sqlhosts - had to add an entry for each alias (!!!) changed /etc/services for the tcp guy. Brought up online 1st time it complained about not having the sqlhosts entries so I added entries for the aliases. 2nd time it complained about not having an entry in /etc/services for the 2nd tcp alias - just added that and all is well. So - three places: $INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig.xxx $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts /etc/services cheers j. ____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com Currently on assignment in Sunny Penang. _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
