Re: Script file to do back up of OnLine database
Posted in 1994
I've received several comments and requests for the archive-to-disk script seen here a few months ago. It's already out and in the public space, so there's nothing wrong with talking about it is there? [Hello? Big Brother?] The script *definitely* backs up the online dbspace without shutting down the db. That's where they got the word "OnLine"! It was a real pain back in the SE days. If you are not doing it automatically, routinely, and unattended while still up and available for users you are moving backward. The script in question is in the group archive on mathcs.emory.edu in /pub/informix/pub/arch2disk, and is available via anon ftp. You are more than welcome to it! The only changes I have made to it lately are to pass in the archive level as an argument, and also pass in the location of the "tunables" file (which sets up the needed environmental variables.) This makes it a real generic script which may run unchanged from cron on all of our systems. Feel free to ask/tell me about it.
