I am puzzled by your experiences. I have had Informix v 5.01 running under HP-UX using NIS for at least three years. I also have 7.12 running under HP-UX 9.04 and 7.22 under 10.20. Setting up NIS is alot of grief with Informix and I found Technical Support to be useless in assisting with NIS. Most of the problems I have seen with NIS are related to configuration issues. 951 gets thrown by bad yphosts tables. If you can go to your server and nslookup the client by name and address and see the same output from both (the fully qualified name with the complete address), you are most of the way to your goal. However, since you have other servers that work from the same machine, are the errors thrown on client machines that have success accessing 7.x? Are the users the same for both servers? BTW I appreciate that 951 appears to be user specific but the solution has been related to the client in my experience.
