If I might make an observation... This forum is used to help explain questions and solve problems. Over the past month or so it has become an exchange point for mild flame wars. Generally in the past the majority of letters where questions on functions, coding, queries, and general database design, but as of late it seems to function primarly as a focal point for all the problems in Informix Database products. Granted there are a lot of times when I agree with the comments from others about certain subjects (like upgrade policies and such), but is this the area to maintain a constant flame war? I port just about every product available from Informix to our Hardware platform, and trust me, there are bugs. But we also port Oracle and Ingres, and for sure, these products are far from bugless. Everytime there is a problem someone cries... "Informix is stupid.... blah, blah, blah." Every- one complains about fixes cycle, how fixes are presented, how to find out what bugs exist, and lots of other things. Why don't we try to maintain this a forum for information exchange, instead of Informix bashing. Granted, there are times when you just have to do it. If there is a point you want to get across to Informix, try talking to someone in Menlo Park, if that doesn't work, go higher, or lower, find an area to focus on, perhaps you should post a message on USENET in comp.databases, or even if you have to send a letter to the informix mailing list, perhaps even getting rid of the products that bother you so much, might help. I'm not trying to get anyone to back down on the traffic level here, or even to curb letters, just make sure you're talking about an issue that will profit from a discussion. If someone writes something that ticks you off, email them directly, you don't have to email a reply to the entire list. Sorry if this bothers anyone, but a little self-moderation on the email might be helpful. Mind you, I'm not defending Informix, I've seen them do some really stupid things, and I'm sure they'll continue to do them, but not anymore than Oracle, Ingres or Sybase will.
