If you don't like that you may add another tape drive and do what Mike suggests, including the change to the new drive. If you are like me however, and simply hates writing scripts like that, you may want to check out zarchive, a part of the ztools, which can this for you. They can also compress the data so you can manage with your current drive for quite some time.
