In article <3lh4do$t8@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, calvinng@technet.sg says... >>INFORMIX must think the average site is a bunch of pilgrims standing at >>a medicine show. >With the kind of pricing they are demanding, when just about everyone else >is eliminating runtime charges, I totally agree with you. Once I learn >>the Visual C++/BASIC, why would I need NewEra? Unless it's inexpensive I >>would be an absolute idiot to spend that kind of money, or even waste my >>time with it. >> >Haven't you heard about the Class Libraries that is talked about so much?? >(or is it talked about at all?). I think that is the bigest (if not the >only) selling point for NewEra. (I can hear those OO experts brags about >software ICs again.) Which class libraries? The upper class libraries? :-) They'll be the only ones with money to burn. >I think MSVC is required simply because thats what everyone else is using. >(Don't get me wrong, I am not exactly what you will call a microsoft fan) >But it is indeed puzzling that Informix have to work extra time to get it >to compile with Borland C. I'd sooner spend money on that! >> >that gives me an idea, maybe someone can port Unix onto the Windows95 or >Windows NT?? then everyone can be happy and continue to love Unix, run >Informix OnLine, and develop programs using NewEra, all in one machine!! > The stuff out there for Windows NT is amazing...For $95.00 WinNT ain't bad. I'm having to re-think my computing. The UNIX many-terminal-one-host concept just doesn't apply. And now I can prototype user applications without spending a fortune. WinNT needs some addons--it's true, but keep in mind UNIX went through this same kind of growth.
