DE Edition
Posted in 2014
Kate asked whether the Informix Developer Edition's 8GB database limit covers temp space, logging, etc. Replies said yes, and that DE limits (database size, CPU VPs, SHMTOTAL) are hard-coded in the binaries, not just licence text; Fernando noted newer licence documents no longer list these limits, so checking with IBM was advised. After reducing to 1 CPU VP and 1GB memory, Kate got an 11GB database to start on 11.70.FC7, but then hit a 20-connection DE restriction. Participants disputed whether that user limit is documented for current versions, and no definitive answer is recorded.

Hey all, I need some advice on the Developer's Edition. It says you can only use 8GB for the database. Does that include temp space, logging, etc? Thanks, katedart@bellsouth.net
This won't be a very useful help, but apparently the license was changed recently: Here there's no mention to the limit of 8GB: http://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/displaylis/1723521CE8C459C985257D25 0052AB2D?OpenDocument Here there is a reference to that and other limitations...: http://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/displaylis/A909B0899D1930D085257B39 006E65C2?OpenDocument You should contact an IBM sales team member officially Regards On Tue, Sep 2, 2014 at 7:06 PM, Kate Tomchik <katedart@bellsouth.net> wrote: > Hey all, > I need some advice on the Developer's Edition. Omg you are a life saver! Once i got down to 1 gb memory and 1 cpu i was able to start a database that had 11gb. This is wonderful. Funny, I checked all License information docunents and I can't see this limitation: Latest one (2014/08/19) - regarding IBM Informix Advanced Developer Edition V12.10 - mentioned ONLY Non-Production Limitation and NOTHING else 2014/07/29 - regarding IBM Informix Developer Edition V12.10 http://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/lilookup/A5C36B594058750385257D2500 52AB30?opendocument&li_select=1723521CE8C459C985257D250052AB2D - mentioned ONLY Non-Production Limitation and NOTHING else 2013/03/26 - regarding IBM Informix Developer Edition V12.10 http://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/lilookup/33C63593E1D2237D85257B3900 6E65C4?opendocument&li_select=A909B0899D1930D085257B39006E65C2 - mentioned Non-Production Limitation, Install Limitation, Processor Limitation, Memory Allocation Limitation and Database Size Limitation 2008/05/06 - regarding IBM Informix Dynamic Server Enterprise Developer Edition V11.50 http://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/lilookup/2624346903CFEB200025744300 5C63A3?opendocument&li_select=BB6E8092612E6A7E00257443005C6395 - this one has: User Limitations - The Program allows a maximum of twenty (20) concurrent sessions.
