Configuring IDS 7.3 uc2 on SCO 5.0.4, (RAW Devices ?)

Please can somebody help me with the installation of IDS 7.30 uc2 on
Openserver 5.0.4.
I have a P2-400, 256mb memory, 9gb hd with a 4 gig ntfs, 1.6gb sco, 2gb and
1gb available.
I'm not sure if I've set up the raw devives properly. Fdisk 2gb and 1gb
partition. divvy -m /dec/rhd01 & 02. Set up areas (mirror 25000 blocks,
rootdbs 25000 blocks, chnk1-4. 8032 blocks have been reserved for the
system) with NON FS option. This creates r"division name" in /dev. I have
linked to this file, informix 660 etc. as it seems that it is the character
kind and not the block (crw not brw). Where can I find info on raw devices
(whch book in sco help)?
Kernel params have been changed and relinked.
I Keep getting this message.
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation
What is wrong ?
Anybody have any ideas .....
Peter

Peter, you are doing just fine. The r<division-name> device, or the
character device with 'c' at the beginning of the ls -l listing, IS the
RAW device. The block device, named <division-name>, is the COOKED device
and not the one you want to use.
You did not mention it so I'll ask the dumb question: Did you boot the
new kernel you built?
Run oninit -i -v and see what it is trying to do when it bombs.

You should not change the SHMBASE in onconfig -- use the value shown in the
default onconfig.std file (this is also documented in the Informix release notes
for SCO) Although the Informix error message suggests the SHMBASE value is wrong
-- the message may be misleading. This problem is probably caused by inadequate
shared memory resources, mostly likely an insufficient value for SHMMAX. I think
the default is only 524,288 bytes on SCO 5.0.4. SHMMAX must be greater than the
total shared memory requirements for your engine. Run the SCO kernel configuration
manager or manually edit the appropriate configiration files to increase the value
of SHMMAX to satisfy your total shared memory needs, re-link and reboot. I think
this should solve your problem. If you are using fairly large amounts of shared
memory, you may need to increase MAXUMEM as well.
