Re: Chunk Writes

Intergraph Corporation TIM ============================================================================ E-Mail Memorandum Hi all, Does anyone know what a chunk write is? Does a chunk write relate to a chunk of disk on the OnLine system? Or does it relate to the buffer queues? In the 5.0 adminstrator's guide p. 2-71 it states "During a chunk write, each page cleaner is assigned to one or more chunks." So is this chunk a unit of disk space that makes up a dbspace? For performance reason, would it make sense to have one page cleaner per disk unit chunk rather that one page cleaner per scsi controller? I think what is happening is that all modified pages in the buffers that need to be written to disk are sorted by their disk chunk number. Then each page cleaner can write all the modified pages for a given disk chunk in a single I/O operation. Hope this all makes sense, if not maybe we can discuss it. Thanks in advance for all input.
