Will SE/4GL/RGL/ESQL-C 4.1.UC1 run on SCO OS5 or Linux?

Can anyone tell me of my old 4.1.UC1 version of Informix SE/4GL/RGL/ESQL-C run on SCO Open Server 5 (latest version) or Linux? I am running it on SCO 3.2v4 and would like to keep the same version so as to save a bunch of money and not have to worry about incompatiabilities between versions. I checked with Informix and they only have information back to Informix v5.0 Thanks Muchly, - Brian G.
Hi, We develop some apps in I4gl 4.10.UC1 since 1990 and we still use them under SCO 5.0.2 and SCO 5.0.4. These apps run under SE 4.10 and SE 5.05. We experienced no problems BUT, talking about year 2000, Informix does not support it officialy (of course) but, if your forms accept 4 digits for the year, there will be no problem. I also used Informix 4GL, RDS and SE 4.1 on SCO 3.2v4 since the early 90s. Last summer I experienced porting all that stuff on Linux Red Hat 5.0 for two of my clients. I can tell you that it works, without changing any line of code, except some shell calls in the "RUN ..." instructions that can be different between SCO and Linux (for example 'nawk' is 'gawk' under Linux). You just have to load the IBCs2 package on Linux, to get the compatibility of the executables compiled on SCO. The only remaining problem is I can't compile 4GL on Linux, because the Informix libraries shipped with th SCO distribution (see the 'cc' instruction in fglrun) are not recognized correctly by Linux. So I'm still obliged to develop and compile on SCO before porting on a Linux target. This is a problem for me, not for my clients! Anyway, this problem raises only with 4GL, because the gcc compiler on Linux is quite different from the cc compiler on SCO. With RDS you will experience no difficulty. I am happy to meet people that have the same problem like me : having writed 4GL applications in the early 90s' and wanting to keep them alive on new systems without spending more money when we know that free software solutions exist and are reliable. I would like to go further and to study how to get off from Informix SE and use a free database engine without rewriting any code or very few. Have you any idea? Pascal Ferrari
