It means that some, probably, transient error condition occurred and that the caller should try again. In the case of a non-blocking, listening socket it means that either there are no connections to accept or that there is a temporary shortage of system resources necessary for accepting a connection. In this case neither is true. Some change in Linux between 2.1.132 and 2.2.0 seems to be causing a problem for IDS. So far I haven't been able to reproduce the problem with test code that does non-blocking accepts, nor is there any obvious change in the code that could cause it.
