Text Search: bts versus excalibur

Hi, I have issues with the indexing time using BTS. I probed that one sentence "create index...using bts" takes about 38 hours with a table near one million or records (indexing a field called name char(40)) . I know that the BTS is built on clucene. I want to probe with excalibur. Do you know what is the engine of excalibur ? Have you experienced similar problems with the indexing time?. Please, provide me any clues according your experience.
