Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A newcomer to IDS 11.10 asked how to set up and use the High-Performance Loader's onpload utility: whether to drive it from the ipload GUI or the command line, whether ipload is needed to create the onpload database, and what "projects" and "jobs" actually are. A respondent explained that running either ipload or the command-line onpladm creates the onpload database, that the GUI (requiring $DISPLAY) is easier for beginners while onpladm suits scripting, that a project is simply a user-defined collection of load/unload jobs, and that no scripts are needed since jobs map tables to devices or files. He pointed to the manual, IBM Tech Support, and a published HPL article for further detail.

Hello,
Please could any one help me with configuring and using the onpload utility.
the documents says that i can start the onpload from either ipload or the
onpload command line.
what is the better way to start onpload ( with or with out ipload ).
do i have to run ipload in order to create the onpload database?
onpload -p zz -j bigload -fl
what does a project exactly means?
what should be there in the job? is it the script that i have to write to
unload/load the tables parallely from a database?
Sorry i am trying this utility for the first time & any information would be
of great help.
i am working with IDS 11.10.
Best Regards,
vicky.

This is really a RTFM question :-) (Read the friendly manual). HPL is a neat
tool but there's a lot to it. To answer some of your questions:
1. What is the better way to start onpload ( with or with out ipload ).
do i have to run ipload in order to create the onpload database?
I personally prefer to use the command line tool 'onpladm', although I think
you'll find the gui (ipload) easier to use at first. You have to have your
$DISPLAY set in order for the gui to open. Yes, when you run ipload the first
time, or onpladm, the onpload database will be created.
2. what does a project exactly means?
A project can be a lot of things. It can be a collection of load jobs, unload
jobs, or both. You define what is in a project.
3. what should be there in the job? is it the script that i have to write to
unload/load the tables parallely from a database?
You do not have to write any scripts. The gui will let you select a table to
unload and map the unload to a device or file you wish to unload to, or load
from if a load job.
Once you get into the doc a bit if you still have questions ping Tech Support.
They usually love to take on HPL issues.
