Linda, Why do you think that development time will take longer with OOP? Is that due to a lack of understanding of Object Oriented Methods? Or the fact that without OO a product is initially delivered in a form that is not 100% of the customers expectations and needs (which requires numerous revisions to correct or enhance prior to the product being 'complete'). The main goal of OO (Design/Analysis/Programming) is to shorten the actual development time and strengthen the quality of code. This is acheived by: a) A rigid methodology for analysis (Like Shlaer-Mellor). b) Spending more time in analysis and design to ensure that the customrer/end-user receives a product that is actually what they desire. c) Reuse of common code (objects). You may spend more time in analysis and design than you have in other development projects. Some customers may feel that you need to start writing code from day one of a project. This only leads to major maintenance and enhancements. With OO technologies you can deliver a stronger more robust package from Version 1, rather than waiting for several revisions of a package using non OO technologies. What ever your views are, In My Opinion, OO is one of the best things to affect our business in quite some time.
