Now i have some questions to this topic: : :1) is the JDBC already available ? As I don't have the Universal Server (or now the Universal Data Option) I don't know if the JDBC drivers that are available for the other Informix servers will work with it. They probably will. May be some people also have special implementations for the Universal Server. However, there is a problem: JDBC was not designed to support an ORDBMS and there will be several things that will be hard to do and some probably impossible with nothing but straight JDBC. :2) if not 1), is there an alternative to connect to the IUS via JAVA ? Informix Data Director for Java is supposed to be the alternative. It's supposed to support all the special requirements of IUS. I don't know if the current version does or not though. The current version also seems to be a very different animal from what Informix have announced as the next version. I realy don't understand these products very well. :3) Which JAVA-Development-Environment should be used. I have read :something that Symantec-Cafe is supported in a special way ? Informix have announced a special cooperative development agreement with Symantec where both the Data Director and a version of the Universal Server is supposed to be available packaged with Symantec Visual Cafe. There are announcements of this both at the Informix and Symantec web sites. They didn't go into much detail though, so it's somewhat hard to know what all this means. Informix have also said that their future developments will be standard Java class libraries and Java Beans that can be used with any Java development system. We have found the IBM Visual Age for Java to be the best right now. :If anybody knows somethinh about this, it would be very kind if she/he :gave me some information/hints. Please let's here from you when you get arround to do some work with Java. Any and all experience is interesting.
