ER Tools

}We're evaluating some data modeling tools, and would really like to hear }some input about those that some of you have used or tried. }The desired features we would like to see: } * It must be Windows-based } * It must be able to generate physical schemas for the major DB's } (Including Informix!! :-) } * Able to modify both logical & physical models (where changes to one } must carry over to the other) } * Be able to support subtypes } * Methodology enforcement } * Workgroup support } * Reporting capabilities (allowing for customization) } * Import/Export facilities } }Currently we are looking at S-Designor & ERwin 1.5c (demo copies). }Both appear to be nice tools, but are lacking in at least a couple of the }major features (yes...we're not looking for the Mother-of-all ER tools, just }the CLOSEST one to it :-) Moreover, Silverrun appears nice (we have a }demo from last year), but I'm not too thrilled with their "modular packaging" }approach (ie, separate ERD & reverse engineering packages, which to me }equates to more $$$). Anyway, we're leaning towards S-Designor for now. I was impressed with Westmount, if you've seen it please post why you chose the other packages. They seem to cover most of your 'wish list'. Contact: George P Reiner gere@wmt.nl or (415) 348-4853 I'm interested in seeing more postings on this, can anyone give their evaluations or stories. || ======= **** **T* ======= ||John Regep || **** **** ||Store Systems Developement || **** *R** ||Kmart Corporation || =========== ********* =========== ||3100 West Big Beaver || ***A* **** ||Troy, MI 48084 || **** **** ||(810) 643-5078 ||=============== *M** **** ===============||uunet!kmart!jregep PS: You're welcome George.
