Database connection/Query behavior over the WAN.

Hi, We have informix 7.24.UC2 running on Ultra 3000. We want connect to another database on another machine over the LAN/WAN. We have several applications that may require this. Scenario #1: LAN/WAN is up. Applications make Database Connection (dbconnect) to another database. Possibly makes some queries. LAN/WAN goes down. Attempt to make queries but unable to reach host. Would the query hang? If so, would it time out? If not, if the WAN/LAN comes back up again, would the query continue? Scenario #2: LAN/WAN is up. LAN/WAN goes down. Applications attempt to connect to the database on the server. Would the connection hang? If so, would it time out? (onconfig?) Scenario #3: LAN/WAN is up. Applications make Database Connection (dbconnect) to another database. Informix server on the other machine goes down. Attempt to make queries but informix is down on the other machine. Would the query hang? If so, would it time out? If not, if the other informix server on the other side comes back again, would the query continue? Scenario #4: LAN/WAN is up Informix Server on the other machine was once up but is now down. Applications attempt to connect to the database on the other server. Would the connection hang? If so, would it time out? Appreciate any thoughts on the subject. Thanks. Pete.
