Is Infor still using Informix as their database engine?
Posted in 2009
Not a technical fault but a question about ISV support: the poster asked whether Infor (which absorbed SSA and others) still uses Informix, noting Infor job ads mention Oracle/DB2/SQL Server and complaining that IBM offers no findable catalogue of Informix ISV solutions. Replies confirmed Infor's Exceed warehouse management system runs on Informix (though an Oracle port exists), and one member reported working on an Infor migration from IDS 7 to 11.10. A poster citing an Infor source said Infor has many products on various databases, with WM2000 and Baan still Informix-based and still tracking current IDS releases, and supplied links to IBM PartnerWorld, the developerWorks Informix Business Partner Directory and the Informix partner press page. One reply was simply a flame at the original poster.

Infor is an IBM partner, but they aren't specific and only say IBM hardware and middleware. Infor bought out SSA and a couple of other companies. Just trying to see who's still an ISV / Partner. Its a shame that IBM doesn't have a catalog, even an online catalog of ISV solutions on Informix. (If they do, try finding it on their website!) -G

Infor is looking for Oracle, DB2, and SQLServer skills in Greenville SC and Java skills with MySQL, SQLServer and Oracle in PA. Seems that even though they are an IBM partner and have a deal with IGS, they just don't want to use Informix.

Definitely are for their Exceed warehouse management system. Although there is now an Oracle port also.

Oh that must mean they don't have any, right? What is your real purpose on this group anyway? You seem to be one of those one man musicians with a big drum, headpiece with harmonica and various squeeze instruments strapped to you and little sets of bells attached to your limbs in order to make a big negative noise about the product. You clearly have a LOT of baggage about Informix, the company and have nothing but old news. You have alluded that you know plenty of people with "inside information" but have not named one as yet, and are thrashing around feverishly like a landed Carp trying to make provocative statements in order to get people who may know something to respond with some morsel. Do you fancy yourself as some sort of secret agent for Gartner or The Register? You come across like a pathetic version of Walter Winchell on a bad day. Do you have a little hat too? Hi, >From a trusted source (Infor): Infor has dozens to hundreds of different products, some that use Informix and others that use DB2, Oracle and MSSQL. Infor WM2000's primary database is and always has been Informix and that hasn’t changed, same for Baan. The specific team in Greenville, SC does another development, related to EAM, not related to the applications that use Informix. ---- Infor products that use Informix continue their development, that includes using the latest versions of IDS. ---- As to where to look for Informix partners and their solutions: These are directories where you can find Informix and other IBM Software partners (including Infor): - IBM PartnerWorld - IBM Business Partners www.ibm.com/partnerworld (click on link on the right: 'Find Business Partners') you can search by keyword 'Informix' and other type of criteria - IBM DeveloperWorks - Informix Business Partner Directory http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/display/im/Informix+Business+Partner+Directory - Informix Partners Making Waves http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/informix/press/ Regards, Veronica. > From: im_gumby@hotmail.com > Subject: Is Infor still using Informix as their database engine? > Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2009 07:03:45 -0800 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > Infor is an IBM partner, but they aren't specific and only say IBM > hardware and middleware. > > Infor bought out SSA and a couple of other companies. > > Just trying to see who's still an ISV / Partner. > > Its a shame that IBM doesn't have a catalog, even an online catalog of > ISV solutions on Informix. > (If they do, try finding it on their website!) > > -G > _______________________________________________ > Informix-list mailing list > Informix-list@iiug.org > http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list _________________________________________________________________ Color coding for safety: Windows Live Hotmail alerts you to suspicious email. http://windowslive.com/Explore/Hotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_hotmail_acq_safety_112008
