Informix Uk User Group
Posted in 1999
Not a technical problem: David Williams noted the UK Informix user group INFUSE had folded (poorly attended, bankrupt) and asked for help starting a replacement. Replies said INFUSE had become sales/marketing-oriented and priced out independent contractors, that a successor body (Informix Usergroup (UK) Ltd) existed with a meeting at Informix's Bedfont Lakes HQ, and that comp.databases.informix itself was more useful. Neil Truby declined to lead one. Williams offered to organise an informal c.d.i. UK group, but no concrete outcome is recorded.

The Informix UK User Group (INFUSE) appears to have died.. last I heard they booked a conference hall for 100 people and only a handful turned up so they went bankrupt... I'd like to start a replacement.... Any ideas, Neil Truby, anyone?? -- David Williams
Well, neither it, not its short-lived replacement, seem to be around any more. But then, it ceased to be a user group. It became a 'manager of sales and marketing' group, and they're only interested for the length of time that the 'invitation to tender' is on their desk. Maybe there's only a few people using Informix in the UK. Certainly not many pipe up here. (let those flood gates open.....) It's nice to see Informix finally doing some marketing, but I don't want to pay for the privilege of hearing it (not to mention trying to justify the time to my boss). If a reasonable alternative was proposed, I might be interested, but I find c.d.i. far more useful than any user gorup could be. Richard.

Well, I'd like YOU to start one! I'll take a back seat and then make smug postings every so often suggesting that I would never have done it that way! Seriously, I don't think I could devote the time needed. I'm a contractor and think it unlikely that my current client (or "employer" as the government would have it) would look favourably on my spending working hours on it. Like one of the other posters I get the impression that Informix is on the decline in the UK. Obviously I hope it isn't, but I fear so. So I'd be sceptical as to just what the potentail market is these days. I felt INFUSE mad a major error when it priced we independents out of the membership in favour of corporates. What do people the aims think a UK user group should be by the way?
