ontape vs onbar

Hi all
Is onbar a viable backup solution with IBS 9.x or is ontape still the best ?
I keep reading in the newsgroup, talk about using ontape as backup and not
onbar. Why ?
thanks
Depends
if you have lots of servers and an external tape
silo/autoloader/something
then I think onbar is great. I find it more of a pain to setup and
get working correctly. I've got two identical systems I look after,
one works fine when the onbar is scheduled remotely, one doesn't.
I also think the restore is not as straighforward, it's certaily not
difficult just not as easy as ontape. Onbar has some nice features,
in particular point-time-recovery, parallel backups and automagically
generate multiple copies.
if you have a single server and locally attached tape drives then I'd
go with ontape. It's easy to setup i.e. you do nothing, my sort of
task:-)). The restore is a doddle which is important in the middle of
the night!! Ontape does what is says on the tin, it backs up and
it restores - nothing else
With some of the larger systems we look after we still use ontape to
disk and then use the remote server to pick the files up, rather than
using onbar
Cheers
