How do I determine which edition I m running?
Posted in 2020
Dan Mueller asked how to tell which edition an inherited 11.5 instance runs. Martin Graney suggested onstat -, which works in 12.10 but not 11.5. Carlton Doe listed the 12.10 version suffixes, Mark Jalkiewicz suggested checking the install tar file or trying PDQ, and Jeffrey Filippi said the online.log startup shows a Workgroup memory limit warning. Hrvoje Zokovic noted 11.50.FC5 shows WE.

Folks, I inherited an 11.5 Informix instance and need to find out what edition it is running. Where can I find that info? thanx, dan ------------------------------ Dan Mueller ------------------------------ #Informix
Dan:
If you run
ONSTAT -
from the dbaccess command line it should return one line with the version number (e.g.):
D:\\Program Files\\IBM\\Informix\\12.10>onstat -
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10WE -- On-Line -- Up 209 days 02:54

The onstat - thing does tell you in v12 however not in v11.5.

ed. This is not correct, ignore this. IMHO - you can't Same binaries for Enterprise and workgroup Ed. You have to look at onconfig, and if settings comply workgroup (e.g. no pdq configured) you can assume it is WG license. The best way is to look what is payed for. Dan, first check to see if the Informix tar file is still on the server or your network somewhere.. the name should give you a good idea. Or try running ids_install (if it still in $INFORMIXDIR) which I recall tells you the edition being installed rite up front then quit out of it. or try using PDQ, if allowed then you can assume Enterprise Edition if not then your down to growth. Mark
I was wrong. This is Enterprise (Ultimate) ed: informix@ubuntu64:~/ient1150fc5/bin$ ./oninit -V IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC5 Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 And this is Workgroup (Growth) ed: informix@ubuntu64:~/iwgp1150fc5/bin$ ./oninit -V IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC5WE Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 At least from C5 it is showing WE for workgroup. Sorry for confusion Hrvoje ------------------------------ Hrvoje Zokovic ------------------------------
Dan: Sorry. It has been a while since I worked on IDS 11.50. ------------------------------ Best regards, Martin Graney Queues Enforth Development, Inc. Stoneham, MA 02148 ------------------------------
John Miller used to have a web page on this but I'm pretty sure it disappeared.
If you execute a onstat - or an oninit -Version and see:
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10AEE -- On-Line ...... this is Advanced Enterprise Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10ADE -- On-Line ...... this is Advanced Developer Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10 -- On-Line ...... this is Enterprise Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10WE -- On-Line ...... this is Workgroup Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10E -- On-Line ...... this is Express Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10IC -- On-Line ...... this is Innovator C Edition
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC10DE-- On-Line ...... this is Developer Edition

Carlton: 11.50 didn't have the Edition included in the the version string apparently, at least not for Enterprise. I thought that it did for Workgroup so either Dan is running Enterprise or it is not showing for Workgroup either. Art Art S. You can look at the online.log file to see when the instance started and if it is workgroup edition it will show the following in the online.log file: 10:17:48 IBM Informix Dynamic Server Started. 10:17:48 Warning: The IBM IDS Workgroup Edition license restriction limits 10:17:48 the total shared memory size for this server to 16777216 KB.
