ISQL - What else can do the job?

Hi, One of the nice things I noticed in ISQL was the ability to quickly generate a Query/Insert/Update/Delete screen on any table and then have my users use that to clean up data that the application can't fix. However, I don't have ISQL installed on my system. I do have Informix 4GL, but I don't want to have to write code logic to safely Query/Insert/Update/Delete rows in any table. Is anyone approaching this kind of thing with something other than ISQL? Please let me know. -Dave Lahoti

Yes, try invoking i4gl -or- r4gl .... Form/Generate; will solve your problem. i4gl and r4gl are Interactive versions of 4GL (c-code and p-code respectively) where you can create/compile/run 4gl applications/modules along with Generation/Creation/Compilation of forms. regards, Rahul. > > Please let me know. > > -Dave Lahoti

I just created a set of template 4GL programs and library code they share for one, two, three & four table maintenance screens. All I have to do to support a new table is create an edit form, a screen array browse form, and a QBE form (perhaps the same as the edit form), copy and rename the appropriate template, and spend an hour or two replacing column names in the code. I have comments preceding all of the small sections that need to be edited. Optionally I can then create zoom/pick lists and clone a pick list function for that. Takes less than 2 hours for a 2 table parent/child maintenance function and about 4 hours for a four table function maintaining a parent, child and two sibling grandchild tables. You can easily do the same. Art S. Kagel
